Is TWP 100 right for your deck?
If you want a natural wood look that won't peel, and you live outside the VOC-regulated states, the answer is usually yes. TWP 100 is an oil stain that sinks into the wood and protects it from the inside.
Check your state before you order
TWP 100 can't ship to: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Northern Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Maricopa County, Arizona. Orders to those areas are canceled with a $5 fee.
What you get
- A penetrating finish, not a film - it won't peel when applied correctly
- EPA-registered protection against wood rot
- Water repellency that helps stop cracking and splitting
- UV protection in the tinted colors to slow graying
- Mildew resistance for a cleaner-looking deck
- Even fading on deck floors, so touch-ups blend in
- Gallons and 5 gallon pails
What to expect
On siding, fences and railings, a properly prepped two-coat job typically lasts three to five years, and even longer on wood that weathered a couple of seasons first. Deck floors take more abuse, so plan on a quick clean-and-recoat sooner - with TWP there is no stripping, just clean and apply.
TWP 100 cleans up with paint thinner or mineral spirits. Keep it away from open flames, and lay oily rags flat outdoors to dry - wet rags can catch fire on their own.
Pick your color
Six transparent wood tones, plus two semi-transparent grays that cost a little more.

A clear version is available too, but it has no UV protection. Our most popular choice is 101 Cedartone.
Staining your deck with TWP 100, step by step
- Clean and brighten the wood with Restore-A-Deck, rinse, and let it dry completely.
- Pick a mild, dry day and work out of direct midday sun.
- Apply a generous first coat to the deck floor.
- While it is still wet, apply the second coat. If the wood drank the first coat quickly, thin the second coat a little so it keeps soaking in.
- On railings, spindles and siding, one coat is usually enough.
- Keep traffic off for 24 hours and furniture off for 3 days.
